Barbara Pilato Retires from Homewood Senior Center
The Homewood Parks and Recreation Board would like to wish a fond farewell to Barbara Pilato upon her retirement from parks and recreation effective October 31, 2009. Barbara spent 36 years of service, all with the City of Homewood, in park and recreation. As the Director of the Senior Center Barbara leaves behind a wonderful legacy and created a dance program that remains three hundred patrons strong. We wish Mrs. Pilato to best in her future endeavours.
2009 MS. SENIOR ALABAMA SALLY BETH VICK
Birmingham, AL - Sally Beth Vick, Ms. Senior Homewood was crowned the 23rd Ms. Senior Alabama at Mountain Brook High School on Saturday, June 20, 2009. She is a graduate of Hueytown High School and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) cum laude. She is retired from the U.S. Small Business Administration where she served as the Public Information Officer for the Alabama District Office.
This year’s theme was “On With The Show.” Mrs. Vick competed with 11 other dynamic, talented contestants, all over the age of 60, from across the state. Mrs. Vick won the judges’ hearts with her wisdom, poise, intelligence, civic involvement, and vocal talent of “I Could Have Danced All Night.” Judges for this year’s pageant were 2008 Ms. Senior America Olivia Haley, Auburn Foremen, and Kristi Tingle Higginbotham. The competition was based on four categories, 1) interview, 2) evening gown, 3) philosophy of life, and 4) talent.
The 2009 Ms. Senior Alabama contestants included Ms. Senior Baldwin County Barbara Shepard, Ms. Senior Cahaba Carolyn Roberson, Ms. Senior Chilton County Lucile McFarland, Ms. Senior Cullman County Lillie Tucker,
Ms. Senior Etowah County Brenda Emery, Ms. Senior Jefferson County Jody Newman, Ms. Senior Macon County Annette Ashford, Ms. Senior Rocket City Mary Ellen Hartness, Ms. Senior Trussville Jewel Hall, Ms. Senior Tuscaloosa Gail Jennings West, and Ms. Senior Wiregrass Betty Rowland.
Mrs. Vick will represent Alabama at the Ms. Senior America Pageant this October in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The Ms. Senior America Pageant is the first and foremost pageant to emphasize and give honor to women who have reached the "Age of Elegance." It is a search for the gracious lady who best exemplifies the dignity, maturity and inner beauty of all senior Americans. The Ms. Senior America philosophy is based upon the belief that seniors are the foundation of America, and our most valuable treasure. It is upon their knowledge, experience and resources that the younger generation has the opportunity to build a better society.

Homewood Senior Center
The Homewood Senior Center offers a variety of programs, facilities and services to our Senior population. The Center offers a variety of programs, which includes dance classes, board games, arts and crafts, computer classes and exercise classes. Some of the services offered by the Senior Center include Garden Lunches for $1, Primetime Express limited transportation service and health fairs offering flu shots.
