Recreational Basketball is a fun program where kids learn the fundamentals of the game in a positive and supportive environment. Players build skills, teamwork and confidence while enjoying the game and making new friends.

BASKETBALL FAQ
DO HOOPSWOOD PLAYERS HAVE TO PLAY REC?
Players are not required to participate in the Homewood Rec Basketball League to be eligible for Hoopswood, but participation is strongly recommended to help support the community.
HOW OFTEN WILL TEAMS PRACTICE?
Teams will practice once or twice a week, depending on the coach’s schedule and gym availability.
HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER TO COACH?
Enthusiastic volunteers are welcome. Contact one of the basketball league officials listed below to get involved.
WHAT IS REC LEAGUE ALL-STARS?
Rec League All-Stars is an end-of-season opportunity for Rec basketball players to represent Homewood in a statewide tournament. The tournament has two stages: District, which is held locally, and State, which is held in Tuscaloosa.
Teams will be selected during the season by the coaches for each age group. Players selected to an All-Star team will have the opportunity to compete against Rec League teams from across the state.
CAN MY CHILD PLAY UP A GRADE?
Players should register for the grade they are currently in. If your child is registered for the wrong grade, we will make sure they are placed in the correct grade before teams are formed. If you have questions about which grade to register for, please reach out to us before registering.
